Hi! My name is Molly Thompson. I was crowned the 2011-2012 North Dakota Junior High Rodeo Division Queen on May 16, 2011. It was a very close competition but I was blessed with winning the title along with the categories of impromptu question, appearance, photogenics, application, and modeling. Here is a little about who I am…I am the 12 year old daughter of Michael and Dawn Thompson. I live in Kindred ND with my parents, older brother Ryan, and a huge extended family. I will be a seventh grader at Kindred Public School where I enjoy volleyball, dance, 4H, and Jr. High FFA hippology judging team. I am active in the Sheyenne Red River Rodeo Club, Mandan Horse and Saddle Club, Triple C 4H club, and my church youth group. I enjoy participating in rodeo, drawing, reading, and being with my friends and family. My life with horses started when I was only a few weeks old as my parents took me riding. Of course, they just held me on the horse while they actually did the riding. The family love of horses started at least 3 generations before that. My Great Grandparents started the family tradition of enjoying horses with everything from working cattle, horseshows, trail riding, and of course rodeo. All of my Aunts, Uncles, cousins, Mom, and brother are either past or current Jr. High or High School rodeo contestants and several have gone on to college and professional rodeo competition. I began my Jr. High School rodeo career in the 2010-2011 year. I caught my first calf in competition that year and got third place. I have gained a lot of experience and hope to keep improving in my events which are breakaway roping, goat tying, pole bending, barrel racing, and I will be adding team roping and ribbon roping in the fall 2011 rodeo season. I have learned so much in the rodeo arena this past year. I plan to show others how Jr. High School Rodeo can affect you in so many wonderful ways, both inside and outside of the arena. As people are cheering at rodeos, you may hear some saying during the roping events, “Reach for it if you want it”. Well, I wasn’t sure if I could catch my first calf at the rodeo or win the queen contest, but I dared to “Reach for It” and I got it! I hope I can share this message with as many people as possible so they can reach for their dreams just like I did and will continue to do.
I wish to thank all of my sponsors, family, and friends that have helped me to “Reach For It” and to not only try, but to “catch” some of my dreams.
