North Dakota became a member of the Jr. High Division of the National High School Rodeo Association in December of 2004. The Jr. High Division is the Junior High Division of the NHSRA and is based on the same high standards of sportsmanship, conduct, and academic excellence while developing future rodeo contestants. It also gives the many young cowboys and cowgirls the opportunity to compete at a national finals rodeo while developing their skills at the sixth, seventh and eighth grade level.
Events in the Junior Rodeo Division include: Junior Bull Riding, Tie Down Roping, boys and girls Breakaway Roping, Chute Dogging, Boys and Girls Goat Tying, Ribbon Roping (team consists of a boy and girl), Team Roping, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and Queen Contest. All Rules and By-laws for the Junior High Division are included in the NHSRA Rule Book covered specifically on pages 106 - 116.
